Reflecting on 2017

Happy New Year to every one of you!
I have spent a bit of time today reflecting on the past year; and what a difference my life is now from January 2017!

This time last year, not only was I working for a company which I truly enjoyed working for in the beautiful City of London – I was also lucky enough to be looking forward to 3 amazing holidays, 1 beautiful spa break and a one way flight to Australia; all in the space of 6 months. What a beautiful year!

I am glad to finally be able to say that I am at my happiest – mentally and physically. You hear a lot these days about mental health and the awareness it deserves; and I truly think its amazing that people are feeling comfortable to speak up a lot more recently. Everyone has their dark days, dark months, even dark years – and I am a strong believer in mind over matter. The mind is a strong thing, and whatever may be going on inside – I personally believe, and know, that you have the power to train you and your mind to do what ever you truly want it to do.
Happiness comes from within and self-care is key; spread that sh*t like confetti.

2018 is going to be a beautiful year.

So, what made my 2017 so special?

In February, I was invited on a very spontaneous last minute trip to Amsterdam with my friend Aimee! I had been before, so thankfully (to some extent!) I knew my way around. You really could spend forever getting lost in Amsterdam! As it goes, our favourite cafe was called ‘Lost in Amsterdam’ ; Our weekend was absolutely filled with cafes, food and non-stop laughing. God love ya!

My second trip of the year was a week in New York with my beautiful Nana for my 23rd birthday in March. We are true lovers of NYC and have visited the Big Apple 3 years in a row now. Our favourite time to visit absolutely has to be around Christmas – nowhere does Christmas like New York! With Santa Clause on every corner, Rockefeller’s Christmas tree, Central Parks ice rink, Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, Christmas markets – the list really is endless, the Christmas vibe in NY is just like no other!
However, for 2017, we fancied a change and I thought it would be nice to visit over my Birthday… I was not prepared for just how cold it was still going to be in March! I was looking forward to a little bit of wintery sun but, wishful thinking at its best; I could not have been more wrong! I am pretty sure it was actually colder than our other visits in November & December! Nonetheless; it was absolutely beautiful and I look forward to our next NY trip over the next year or two! Sadly we couldn’t visit around Christmas in 2017 due to me and Rick selfishly hopping on a flight to Australia in August… but that wont stop us from visiting NY again! (Nana, I know you’re reading this; meet ya there!)

The following weekend, Rick took me on what I would call the most heavenly spa weekend… ever.
Alexander House Hotel & Utopia Spa; you are a dream! Located in West Sussex in the UK – I honestly still dream about this weekend! The bedroom, the spa, the outdoor spas & saunas, the facial and duo massage, the all round service, the dinner, the breakfast bought to our bed (not to the door, to the bed!) – from start to finish it was out of this world. This has to be one of my favourite weekends to date!

Last, but certainly not least – our beautiful family holiday to the Algarve, Portugal! This holiday was truly perfect in every way – the Algarve is so ideal for couples and relaxed family trips. We all knew that 2 months later me & Rick would be on a one-way flight to Australia, so it was the perfect chance to have some real family time all together – until next time!

Time spent with family is time well spent.

Then before we knew it, August  had flown around and we were enjoying our ‘Not Goodbye, but See You Soon’ family garden party! What a day to remember. Family is so precious…

Oh and to really top the year off… My superhero dad received his much deserved early retirement over the New Year! We have all been waiting for this moment for a few years now; it has been put off and put off by his company, but they finally gave in to the decision to let him go! He can now relax and become a man of leisure. Enjoy every minute, Daddy. You Deserve it!

What a whirlwind its been; and now its 2018! There is an endless list of things making me happy right now. I am in one of the most beautiful and adventurous countries in the world, with some of the most amazing plans; and all the while sharing all of my time with someone who has all of the same visions as I.

♥ Our farm work has been completed, meaning that we have an extra 12 months to enjoy this wonderful country!
♥ We have a whole 12 days left of our month long holiday in Airlie Beach & the Whitsundays.
♥ Our flight to Sydney is booked for the 16th January. (We are hoping to love Sydney enough to work and settle there!) If not – its back to Airlie Beach to become a yacht captain! 😉
♥ The festive period is over which means we can go back to our normal eating and exercising regimes! We’ve had far too much fun… and there is nothing wrong with that!
♥ I am only 3 months away from my family visiting us out here!

The list goes on… But I have done enough talking about me, myself & I for today.

We are so excited for what this year holds in store for us. Our plan is to enjoy every minute, work hard and make friends with the world.

Smile always. Life is a beautiful thing.

With Love Emma
