So Far on Airlie Beach

I actually think that from spending our first 4 months in the rural areas of Australia, I forgot just how beautiful other parts of this country really are. You kind of lose yourself in that ‘farming’ way of life, and I started to believe that is what the rest of this country was going to be about.
I could not have been more wrong…

We are currently spending Christmas & New Year 2017 in and around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.

After living in a tent for over 3 months, we decided that we would treat ourselves to some luxury! I knew in my mind what I wanted for our accommodation over Christmas – it was then just a case of finding it! I searched Airbnb and it didn’t take me long to find Annie & Mario’s BEAUTIFUL villa located in Cannonvale next to Airlie Beach. We didn’t hesitate at all – it was booked!
The price came in at $2600 for the week… and worth every cent!

Beautiful. It is everything that we expected and more!

We took the Spirit of Queensland overnight rail train all the way to Proserpine. It took 10 hours and I slept for a good 8 hours of those, due to the comfortability of the train and my trusty travel pillow! We left Bundaberg at 9pm and arrived at 7am – hopped onto a coach which was ready to leave as soon as we stepped foot onto it; 15 minutes later, we were in Airlie Beach! Airlie’s main street really feels like a real holiday town – which I just love! Bars, cafes, restaurants, swim & surf stores, gift shops and more! We are totally in our element.

(This travel pillow truly is a god send – it allows me to sleep anywhere and everywhere! I picked this up from Dixons Travel at Heathrow airport and I refuse to part with it. It is memory foam and molds absolutely perfectly to any position you may find yourself in!)
Buy it here!

After reaching Airlie’s main street, we made our way to AVIS car rental and picked up our little run around – after all, we were carrying 3 suitcases and a rucksack; so we were in desperate need of a car! The car came to a total of $330 for 7 days – and we found out once we arrived that they also take a further $400 to cover any damage, but this is refunded as soon as the car is returned.

By the time we were handed the keys, we still had around 4 hours to kill until we could check in to our apartment – so we made our way to Woolies & Big W to buy the necessities for the week!

Large inflatables were the priority of course.

Our week in the apartment so far has consisted of spending a lot of time in and around the pool, relaxing, making and eating good food and genuinely just enjoying some time to ourselves!

We’ve spent enough money on the apartment, so we are going to absolutely make the most of it!

What else have we been up to?

On our second day, I treated myself to a full body Swedish massage along with a set of shellac nails at the gorgeous boutique salon “The Beauty Room” located on Airlie’s main street. I felt like I really needed some pampering after 4 months without it. Finally, I can go back to my normal girly ways! What a nice treat that was.

Sundowner Cruise
The lovely owner of our apartment, Annie, is a yacht captain – so when we first arrived into her apartment, she invited us onto her sunset cruise departing that Friday! Of course, there was no way that we could decline the Sundowner cruise at only $40 per person! (Usually $55) Which includes 2 hours sailing, a glass of champagne and nibbles whilst relaxing on board watching the Whitsunday sunset. It really is the perfect start to any evening!
La Marina – Italian

Airlie Beach boasts a large selection of restaurants, from fine dining to Maccas! Italian has always been a real favourite of mine – so I knew that Italian was on my ‘To Do ASAP’ list! There are two beautiful Italian restaurants here. Sorrento, located on Abell Point Marina and La Marina located at Port of Airlie! We chose to visit Sorrento but sadly arrived there to find out that they were fully booked, so off to La Marina we went; and what a beautiful meal we had. From the food to the service, it was perfect.

The BBQ Char Grilled Tiger Prawns to start were out of this world.
Sadly, they were so good that I forgot to take a photo of them! Truthfully, I just couldn’t wait any longer to eat them. #Hangry

Total relaxation

We came here to do not a lot apart from relax, eat good food and drink many cocktails!

…and that is exactly what the Whitsundays is for!

We are counting down the minutes until Christmas Day!
Not to mention our 3 day cruise around the Whitsunday islands – departing on the 28th December.

We are truly spoiling ourselves!
